Help I Have: Aging Under Eyes

In New York, we place huge emphasis on making eye contact to connect with each other. Whether that connection is romantic, related to a business deal, or empathizing with your friends  - eye contact has become more and more critical in our everyday lives. In the real world, we can’t hide behind an Instagram face filter or great Zoom lighting, so it has become a more common concern amongst our clients to ensure their eyes are looking great at first glance.

When it comes to the delicate and thin skin surrounding our eyes, there are several treatment options that address a variety of concerns. Here’s a quick guide to how we treat the most common problems our patients are experiencing around their eyes.

The Problem: Dark Circles

Often caused by lack of sleep or just simply by genetics, the skin around your eyes can appear much darker than the rest of your face.

The Solution: PRFM (Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix) Therapy. We pull your own platelet-rich growth factors and inject them into the affected area to stimulate collagen and thicken the skin. We recommend 2-3 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart to start, or until you’re happy with the result. Results continue to improve for several weeks following treatment and usually last 1-2 years.

The Problem: Skin Texture or Lack of Elasticity

Small bumps or crepey skin that feels loose are common signs of aging since the skin around your eyes is significantly thinner than the skin on the rest of your face.

The Solution: PRFM (Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix) Therapy. Similar to dark circles around your eyes, stimulating collagen will thicken the skin and restore its structure. We recommend 2-3 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart to start, or until you’re happy with the result. Downtime is limited with mild swelling, bruising and redness seen most commonly.

The Problem: Hollowing

The area around your eyeball is losing muscle mass and starting to look a bit too skeletal for your liking.

The Solution: Dermal Fillers. We use hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers for the safest (it’s fully reversible!) and most natural results. Oftentimes, we start with cheek filler and that can improve your under eye area immediately by supporting it. If cheek filler does not fully solve your eye hollowing, for the right candidate, under eye filler directly applied to the tear troughs can be an appropriate solution. If there is hyperpigmentation, puffiness/bags or crepey skin present under the eyes, dermal filler is likely not the best treatment option. From there we can work together to develop an optimal solution that is bespoke to your anatomy. Cheek and Under Eye Filler can last 1-2 years and results are instant.

The Problem: Crow’s Feet

As we age, the skin around our eyes can become less resilient, making it less resilient to muscle contractions around the eyes.

The Solution: Wrinkle reducers can be injected to relax the orbicularis muscle surrounding the eye, making eyes appear slightly larger and giving the outer brow a subtle lift. This is intended to block the impulse from the nerve to the muscle, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. Wrinkle reducers take about 1-2 weeks to fully set in and last on average for 3-4 months before it’s time for your next treatment.

The Problem: Dullness

Especially in the wintertime, New Yorkers tend to complain about the fragile skin around their eyes looking less alive or bright.

The Solution: Aquagold Infusion treatment around the eyes provides an instant brightening effect, with zero downtime. A customized blend of vitamin C, hyaluronic acid-based filler and wrinkle reducers are infused into the skin with 24k gold needles. Vitamin C brightens dull skin, filler adds lasting hydration, and wrinkle reducers soften the look of fine lines under the eye. Results are immediate but continue to improve for 1-2 weeks, lasting for 4-6 weeks.
